The B.Sc. (Honors) Data Science is a degree program under the National Education Policy (NEP) semester pattern for Three / Four years. AIM OF THE PROGRAM:
This data science course introduces statistical thinking – starting with an interesting question and using the data and software tools to form a reasonable conclusion. The Data Science course relates the content to a demonstrable skill that can be immediately applied in the workplace. Students who enroll in this program will: Learn the meaning, purpose, scope, stages, applications, and effects of data science. Gain an in-depth understanding of data structure and data manipulation. This course gains a thorough understanding of the concepts and gain practical mastery over principles, algorithms, and applications of data science.
The proposed course comprises key technologies, including R, Python, Matplotlib and Tableau. Students will also gain an understanding of supervised and unsupervised learning models. Upon graduation, students will be able to Identify a business problem or opportunity and how data analytics may be applied to solve the problem and/or increase business value

DURATION OF THE PROGRAM:
The B.Sc. (Honors) Data Science. Degree course is for Three/ Four years and spread over eight consecutive semesters. The maximum duration to acquire the prescribed number of credits in order to complete the Program of Study shall be Eight Semester consecutive semesters (4 Years) for B.Sc. (Honors) Data Science with Research and Six Semesters (3 Years) for B.Sc. (Honors) (Data Science).
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:
The candidates for admission to this programme shall be required to have passed the 10+2 / 10+3 system of examinations or equivalent with mathematics/business mathematics / Computer Science/Computer Applications/Information Practices/equivalent as one of the subjects of study. Students shall be admitted to this programme based on admissions criteria fixed by the University / Government of Puducherry from time to time.
AGE LIMIT:
Candidates must have completed 17 years as of July of the academic year and should be below 21 years of age as of July of the year. In the case of physically handicapped, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates, the age relaxation will be considered for three years as per norms.
LATERAL ENTRY FOR ADMISSION (From the Academic Year 2024-25):
As per NEP, students have a choice of exit and entry into the programme multiple times. UGC specifies that about 10% of seats over and above the sanctioned strength shall be allocated to accommodate the Lateral Entry students. Candidates seeking entry in the second, third and fourth year should meet the necessary eligibility criteria with respect to the certificate/diploma/degree they possess, with the necessary minimum credits banked in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). Such students who get admitted in later years, other than the first year, will be guided by the following clauses:
- The University shall notify the admission process and the number of vacancies open for lateral entry. that the Lateral entrants shall be admitted only after such a transparent screening process and such procedure that the University may prescribe from time to time. University may prescribe different methods of screening for different programmes depending on the circumstances prevailing in each case.
- Lateral entry shall be permissible only at the beginning of years 2, 3, and 4 of the Under Graduate / Honors programme, provided that the students seeking lateral entry shall have obtained the minimum pass marks/grades fixed by the University in their previous academic years.
