Introduction

The B.Sc Computer Science is a degree of program under the National Education Policy (NEP) semester pattern for Three / Four years. The overarching aim of the B.Sc. (Honors) Computer Science program is to equip students with a robust foundation in computer science principles, theory, and practical skills necessary for addressing contemporary challenges in the digital era. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of programming languages, algorithms, data structures, and software development methodologies. By fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, the program aims to cultivate students’ capacity to design and implement efficient and innovative solutions to a wide array of computational problems. Through exposure to diverse areas such as Artificial intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Database management, the course seeks to prepare graduates who can adapt to the dynamic landscape of technology, contribute to cutting-edge research, and excel in a variety of roles across industries. The college provides well-furnished smart class rooms and Wi-Fi enabled campus and world class infrastructure facilities for students with well experienced, qualified and dedicated faculty.

Aim of the Program

The program aims to impart fundamental and hands on knowledge of Computers, Science of Computing and modern science technologies to students. It will be useful for careers in research & development corporate sectors and higher studies in M.Sc. Computer Science. Furthermore, an emphasis on collaborative projects, teamwork, and effective communication skills aims to produce computer science professionals who can thrive in interdisciplinary environments and contribute meaningfully to the evolving field of computing. The program on Computer Science equips students with comprehensive skills on computer systems, hardware, databases, cloud computing, and networks both at the conceptual and application levels. The knowledge gained under this program will be relevant to pursue higher education and for job opportunities in various organizations.

Duration of the Course

The B.Sc. (Honors) Computer Science. The degree course is for Three / Four years and spread over eight consecutive semesters. The maximum duration to acquire the prescribed number of credits in order to complete the Program of Study shall be Six Semesters (3 Years) for B.Sc. (Honors) (Computer Science) and Eight Semester consecutive semesters (4 Years) for B.Sc. (Honors) Computer Science with Research.

The candidates for admission to this programme shall be required to have passed the 10+2 / 10+3 system of examinations or equivalent with mathematics/business mathematics / Computer Science/Computer Applications/Information Practices/equivalent as one of the subjects of study. Students shall be admitted to this programme based on admissions criteria fixed by the University / Government of Puducherry from time to time.

Age Limit

Candidates must have completed 17 years as on July of the academic year and should be below 21 years of age as on July of the year. In the case of physically handicapped, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates, the age relaxation will be considered for three years as per norms.

Lateral Entry Admission(For the Academic year-2024-25 onwards)

As per NEP, students have a choice of exit and entry into the programme multiple times. UGC specifies that about 10% of seats over and above the sanctioned strength shall be allocated to accommodate the Lateral Entry students. Candidates seeking entry at the second, third and fourth year, should meet the necessary eligibility criteria with respect to the certificate / diploma / degree they possess, with necessary minimum credits banked in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). Such students who get admitted in later years, other than first year will be guided by the following clauses:

  • that the University shall notify the admission process and number of vacancies open for lateral entry.
  • that the Lateral entrants shall be admitted only after such transparent screening process and such procedure that the University may prescribe from time to time. University may prescribe different methods of screening for different programmes depending on the circumstances prevailing in each case.
  • Lateral entry shall be permissible only in the beginning of years 2, 3, 4 of the Under Graduate / Honors programme; provided that the students seeking lateral entry shall have obtained the minimum pass marks / grades fixed by the University in their previous academic years.
